Dear Youngziners,

We are pleased to announce our team of Young Editors for 2015! You will see their first set of articles this week.

As we had written here, being part of the Editorial team gives budding writers an opportunity to learn about topics of global interest, do the appropriate background research and understand different sides of an issue, before explaining it to other young readers.

This year, two of our seniormost writers (Rachel and Radhika) will be driving the Young Editor program and mentoring writers. Of course, we will be overseeing and guiding them as well.

So without furher ado, lets meet...

Ananke from California

Hi everyone! I’m Ananke, an incoming 10th grader in the Bay Area of California. I am obsessed with birds and nature in general. I absolutely love birdwatching, gardening, and raising animals.

Last year, as a member of FFA (Future Farmers of America) I raised three chickens. Sadly, I had to sell them at the end of the school year, but it was still an amazing experience overall. I am very concerned about animal welfare and am also very interested in the idea of an eco-friendly, self sustainable community. Apart from being a nature lover, I enjoy playing violin, playing clarinet (for my school marching band), reading, playing badminton, painting, and obsessing over chickens :) I am really excited to join the Young Editor Program for my second time.

For anyone who is interested, I have a blog on my chickens. The link is: Enjoy!

Akila from New Jersey

Hi! My name is Akila and I live in the Garden State of New Jersey. I am 14 years old and I will be going to 9th grade in September. I love to read and play the piano and violin. I also play basketball and golf. I am a First Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo. Though I do not watch much TV, I get my share of fun and news from Youngzine. I love making friends and interacting with them. I am excited to continue writing articles as a Young Editor this year.

Arjun from California

I live in Bay Area, California and will be a Junior in the Fall. I have been an avid Youngzine member for a long time and have written numerous articles as Young Editor, as well as several UWrites. I am very passionate about music and have been learning South Indian Classical Music. I also sing modern pop, and am part of a show choir in my school. I enjoy playing tennis and am an ardent fan of Roger Federer. My other interests are reading books, science research and playing video games.

Joey from Washington

Greetings from Shoreline, Washington! People call me Joey, so that’s my name. I’m thirteen, and I’m an April baby - meaning I just finished 7th grade.

Language Arts is at the top of my subject-o-meter, not because of the grammar, but the writing and reading. I love writing because I consider it a training ground in collecting thoughts and presenting them appropriately. I have considered writing as a job, but decided to be a pediatrician instead. Other than that, I enjoy crocheting and embroidery (it’s therapeutic), drawing and creating (occasionally I get something good) and biking (something Northwestern).

Vatsal from Texas

Vatsal Vemuri is 12 years old and lives in Dallas, TX. Vatsal will be starting seventh grade this fall.

In his spare time, Vatsal likes to read books, especially fiction books that are based on real events. Vatsal also plays classical piano as a soloist and as a member of a Piano Trio. He enjoys doing community service in a range of environments from schools to retirement homes. Vatsal likes to hang out with his friends and play sports such as football and basketball.

Rachel from New Mexico

Hey Everyone! My name is Rachel. I am 17 and will be a Senior in the fall at my city’s newest high school, Centennial. Although I live in what many of my friends think is a boring part of the country, I love Las Cruces New Mexico, although one of my dreams is to travel to Europe. I am passionate about reading, history, and teaching. Someday, I hope to be an elementary school teacher. I am a member of 4-H and I am the president of my club, The City Slickers. As you already know, I LOVE to write and since I’m also fascinated with current events, being a Young Editor is something I look forward to when summer rolls around. I hope you enjoy my articles and feel free to leave comments or questions so I know what you think of them!

Radhika from New York

My name is Radhika, and I just finished my first year of undergraduate in the pre-Med program. I love writing and am a News Editor and Science columnist on my University's newspaper. Outside of school, I learn Indian classical dancing and singing. My hobbies include reading, drawing, tutoring, and playing tennis.
