Although many businesses have temporarily shut down due to the coronavirus, however, mail still continues to be sent and received.

Emerson Weber, a 5th grader from South Dakota wanted to show her appreciation by writing a letter to her mailman.

Emerson has a passion for writing letters and writes around five to ten letters per week on average. She wrote to Doug, the mail carrier, “You may know me as the person that lives here that writes a lot of letters & decorates the envelopes too. Well, I wanted to thank you for taking my letters and delivering them. You are very important in my life. I make people happy with my letters, but you do too.”

The next day, Emerson received a package from Doug and his supervisor thanking her for recognizing their hard work and effort and the importance of their job. Emerson’s letter was shared in a US Postal Service newsletter and messages from postal workers all over the country started flooding in.

Emerson keeps her hands full by responding to all of her letters and she says she is “really excited because I love receiving mail as much as I love sending it. But it made me very happy that they realized people were thankful for them and they took the time to write a letter back to me.”

What can you do to show your appreciation for those working hard through these hard times?
