When you were a child, chances are you played with Lego, small brick-shaped toys that could be stuck together to form anything you could imagine! You might have built boats, tanks, airplanes, or houses. But, could you imagine building a full sized house completely out of Legos?

The city of Billund, Denmark did just that in late September of this year. The 130,00 square foot building is made entirely from Lego, from the floor, to the bathrooms, to the “tree of creativity,” the 6.3-million brick centerpiece.

The house itself is split up into three zones: blue, green, and yellow, with each zone containing different exhibits and activities. The house even boasts the first Lego restaurant, called Mini Chef, where customers order by giving the robot staff four Lego blocks stuck together in a pattern, with each unique pattern corresponding to a different dish on the menu! How cool is that?

While this is the first full-size Lego house, it definitely is not the first incredible thing made with Legos. Nine Legoland amusement parks, stationed around the world, contain over five hundred million bricks worth of full-sized characters and mini skyscrapers, lakes, and more. One of the most popular parks is located right in Billund.

We owe these wonderful creations to the mind and workshop of Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen. He invented the Lego all the way back in 1932.

Over the years, Legos have evolved from simple wooden building blocks to the creative play toys they are now. For almost 100 years, Legos have been used to entertain children and adults alike, as well as to create structures that can give many people a “wow” moment!
