Good question, aarshd. 

A pager is an electronic device that receives messages and signals the user by beeping or vibrating. Think of it like a text message receiving device. Doctors were the first to use it so that they could be alerted about their patients.

Good question writer_girl, it was a way to make a hard copy of your computer's data just as we do with USB pen drives these days. 

Perhaps we should do an article on these obsolete technologies!
