Harvey's Survivors

I see legs, knee-length submerged in rain

Useless umbrellas and cars scattered on streets,

Empty homes filled with water

Some apartments drowned

I anxiously watch the news,

As streets disappear Harvey is coming,

news anchors cautioned

The muffled rain in the background

Then I see open haven,

food banks,

evacuation crew

Neighbors and churches hand in hand

Kids from my old school helping others

To build back the city of Houston,

To all scattered in shelters,

Misplaced in others' homes

Please take a minute,

To understand the amazing truth

You have been through the toughest storm

Helped others, helped yourselves,

Gave families and others protection,

What can you not conquer?

Totally. You know, in history, poems and stories have been used to make changes to unfair laws and encourage others to be kind!
