It is past 11:00 pm. Your best friend and you are in your tent on your camping trip. As you are talking, you suddenly see something. A shadow passes along your tent, pauses near your tent. As you watch with growing anxiety, the shadow comes closer and pauses at the entrance to your tent and then moves away. Grabbing a torch, you unzip the tent and look out...
The night sky was dark and there were many clouds. The stars were not twinkling. There was no breeze. Everything was silent and still. Shawn and I decided we had to see what was going on. So we put our shoes on hurriedly and stepped out of the tent.
We were both very cold and shivering. It was not very cold outside but we were still shivering. Shawn whispered that he was a little freaked out by how silent everything was. I was scared too but did not say anything.
We went to the next tent and called to our two buddies there. No one answered. I flashed the light in and saw that it was empty. We looked at each other and then hurried to the next tent. This was empty also.
What is going on here we wondered. We looked around and saw nothing but just darkness all around. We decided to move towards the place where we meet for breakfast each morning.
As we crept along, we heard leaves rustling and the night creatures making tiny noises. It was getting really freaky. Suddenly Shawn grabbed me and said, “look, over there!” Down in the break area, we saw small lights appearing.
Then suddenly from behind us, we felt something tap our shoulder. We both yelled loudly and raced towards the small lights. We reached the breakfast spot and ran towards the benches. Suddenly, there was this explosion. The lights came on and we saw all our friends and teachers standing there laughing and smiling.
“Happy Birthday!” yelled everyone. I looked at my watch and saw that it was after midnight and it was now my birthday.
